Volunteer Opportunities
Support Members:
Support duties are for members who have gained experience in the Bookrooms, shown an interest in taking on more responsibilities, and have proven their skills. Such opportunities include helping in the storage warehouse, picking up Donations that were given by the public to the Bookrooms, organizing our Public Sales, maintaining our website, and more.
Volunteer Drivers and Box Handlers: (Our Heros!):
As you might expect, we need volunteers who can pick up Donations from people's homes and estate sales and bring them to our storage warehouse and unload them, load and unload boxes of Donations for our sales, etc.

Board of Directors:
Our Board of Directors are elected to one year terms. Many serve multiple terms. The Board includes the President, the Vice President, the Treasurer, and the Secretary as well as other volunteers who are willing to lead our programs and initatives (like our Scholarship Program, Our Book Donations program, Our Liasion to Schools and Libraries program, and serving as Manager of our storage warehouse. The Board of Directors works closely with Sumter County Libraries, as well as local schools.
Bookroom Managers:
We have three Bookrooms within two of the county libraries - at Pinellas and Belvedere. The space is given to us by Sumter County in order to sell donated books, puzzles, DVDs, and more.
Belvedere has one Bookroom that includes all items and Pinellas has a Fiction Bookroom and a Non-Fiction Bookroom. Bookroom Managers ensure Volunteers have training to work shifts in the Rooms and they also keep the Bookrooms stocked along with with forms, information about Friends of the Villages Library, etc.
Bookroom Volunteers:
All volunteers who wish to work 3-hour shifts in a Bookroom must be a Member of The Friends Of The Villages Library and receive training before working. Tasks included in this position include accepting donations of books, puzzles, DVDs, etc., stocking and selling the same donations to our customers, keeping books on the shelves in order, answer questions from customers, work at scheduled sales, and more.
